Society was an industrial punk band from Wellington that channelled the power of bands such as Godflesh, early Shihad, Killing Joke and a decent dose of Swans.
Made up of three former flat-mates: Alex Backhouse (DIAL, Stress) on guitar and vocals; Cameron Reid (Old Loaves) on bass; and Thomas McGrath (Neon Bastard) on the Roland TD-9.
This is the sole recorded document of their songs, recorded in 2012 by Warwick Donald in the basement of what used to be Happy, and later on Puppies, and mixed by Tim Shann (Superorganism) in his Hataitai flat. The EP was originally released as a five-track digital-only EP via the band's Bandcamp page. The full six-song EP was released on cassette through Press Gang Records to celebrate the final performance of the band at the final Camp A Low Hum at Wainuiomata, 2014. The final performance by the band has been documented in the video section below.
