Reactions is the second album from Te Whanganui-a-Tara noise-punks, Hollywoodfun Downstairs. This is the first vinyl release for the band and the first LP released on the New Zealand label, Press Gang Records.
On Reactions, the band found themselves with a new and extremely talented drummer by the name of Joe Wright. He helped to push them sonically, and the resulting songs are a more challenging listen than their debut album The Mancunian Swing (Muzai Records). The new style of the band pushed into the chaos traversed by bands such as Blood Brothers, while straddling the post hardcore leanings of The Mint Chicks and the punk aggression of Die!Die!Die!
Throughout the album, there is a great love on display for a multitude of genres, with flashings of brit-pop, gloomy nods of post punk, blasts of hardcore aggression, and the hugeness of shoegaze fuzz all delivered with acute precision.
Hollywoodfun Downstairs would go on to release one more album, Tetris (Antena Krzyku), before regrouping as a duo and changing their name to Tuscoma.
